Live a life worthy of the calling

Live a life worthy of the calling

God dreams to make His presence known here on earth — not in a tent or a temple, but through a people who is called and consecrated to Him. A people that has one goal: to give praise and honor to Him; a people who is willing to be built together into a dwelling place exactly as He wants it, where He may rest and present Himself to the entire world — a dwelling place built up of people who have opened their hearts to Him and allowed Him to be the Lord over His handiwork.

We must never degrade the call to plant churches by making it only about meetings, activities and programs. Church planting is first and foremost about fulfilling the dream of God. God’s longing is to find a people, a group of individuals in every village, city, culture and ethnic group who are willing to become His dwelling place. God longs for people He can do His will through, people who are light and salt in a world ruled by darkness and decay. This is the reason why we should ask how we can build rather than what we can build. It matters how we build His house. Ephesians 3 to 6 explains how life in God’s house should be lived:

“...Live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (4:1-3). We must “put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body” (4:25). It includes the way we talk: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” (4:29). It is about forgiving each other: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you!” (4:32). We must “walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us” (5:2). In all things we must be “speaking the truth in love” (4:15).

These verses are a practical expression of His glory made visible through people who are living in “grace and truth” in and through their fellowship. Church planting is to realize God’s dream: that in every geographic place, culture and ethnic group there dwells a people who desires to live according to what He says. In this way, many more new people will believe and become disciples when they see “how they love one another.” The power of the Word is made visible when people accept it and allow their lives to be influenced by it.
